West Feliciana Parish Tour of Homes

The eighth annual West Feliciana Friends of the Library Tour of Homes will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004 between 12 noon and 5 p.m. during Christmas in the Country. Two of the houses are on Solitude Road just north of St. Francisville, one in the Bluffs and the other on Highway 966 near the Bluffs.
Donna and Phillip Gordy painstakingly designed the exterior of their home to look like Live Oak Plantation in West Feliciana parish. The inside of the 3 story house features on open floor plan, cypress beams, and hard pine and brick floors. The Gordys purchased 35 acres that were once part of Governor John M. Parker's farm. The house overlooks a large pond and is surrounded by large live oak trees.

Casa Retiro (Retreat House) is the country home of Laura and Mike Palmintier. The owners describe the house as Spanish-Tuscan in style. Designed by architect Mike Pritchard and built in 1995, the house features vaulted and barrel ceilings, a double fireplace, and a room with walls and floor built from wood taken from an old shack on the property. The home sits on 80 wooded acres and overlooks a lake. The gardens were designed by David Palmintier, Landscape Concern in Lafayette, and are maintained by Jim Anderson.

Jackie and Bill Pitre bought their home in 2003. Built in 1986, the French country house is set on secluded landscaped and wooded grounds and features 10 foot ceilings and marble fireplaces.

The home of Jo and L.J. Sevin was one of the first built in The Bluffs. The exterior is a copy of Rienzi Plantation in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Double exterior stairs curve from the upstairs gallery; the house is flanked by nature trails. Special interior features include a large media room and a collection of St. Francis of Assisi statues.

Tickets for the tour are $15 per person and may be purchased in advance and on the day of the tour at the West Feliciana Parish Library, 11865 Ferdinand Street in St. Francisville. All proceeds from the tour are used for library projects. For more information, call the library at 225/635-3364.
