Historic Downtown

Begin your journey in historic St. Francisville, the heart of West Feliciana, atop the bluffs of the mighty Mississippi just north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Stop off at the old hardware store, renovated by the Historical Society and now used as a museum and information center. Visit the information center for local history, brochures, walking tour and directions on the area.

The downtown is built on a narrow ridge "two streets wide" and half a mile long, composed of bed & breakfasts, historic homes and commercial buildings lined with picket fences crowded with azaleas.
The Old Methodist Church
The mixture of gift shops, antique shops and specialty stores enhance the flavor of the times and are a welcome addition to the travel experience. Visiting the historic churches and cemeteries, is truly a must.

The hilly country side around our lovely town is speckled with plantation homes, many which are opened to the public for tours and some with restaurant or overnight accommodations. Many of the small country roads, arched-over with trees, make great expeditions by car, bike or foot for viewing wildlife, natural foliage and antebellum structures. Experience the true beauty of Felicianas the way John J. Audubon while working as a tutor at Oakley House. Other in the country
Along the Tunica
Hills trail path
attractions include a hike in Tunica Hills where, yes, there are waterfalls. Or a round of golf at the two local courses.

Enjoy a nature adventure into Mary Brown Nature Conservancy or Cat Island Swamps where the largest bald cypress resides. Or just relax on the bank of the Mississippi River catching the landing of paddle wheeler or watching the ferry cross back and forth from the town of New Roads, Louisiana.
