Lake Rosemound
Bird Sanctuary
|
Nestled in the Tunica Hills just south of the Mississippi
State line, is a quiet beautiful residential community of Lake Rosemound, Louisiana. Homes and
camps are built on some 2250 acres of hilly woodlands rich in Louisiana hardwoods. These homes are built along the steep inclined shores of two connected lakes, with depths up
to 33 feet. The lakes are spring fed and are man-made by a huge levee which also serves as a road
bed. The lakes are excellent in fishing for bass, catfish, bream, and sac-a-lait. Water sports such
as knee-boarding, wake-boarding and skiing are designated for one lake. The other lake prohibits
any type of skiing. To use the lake you must be a member of the Lake Rosemound Association which
presently has approximately 235 members. The lakes are strictly patrolled. Visitors can best view the birds in this sanctuary from the parish roads and accesses. With
the showy abundance of magnolias, gardenias, tulip trees, dogwood, and large variety of azaleas;
birdwatching is hard to be upstaged in this nature area. Typical birds entering this serene community
are the blue herons, Eastern bluebirds, cardinals, hummingbirds, white egrets, masked cockadee, bluejay
and many more.
